FAVES & DISCOVERIES 2024 // PART II.
Das letztes Jahr ist wirklich ganz und gar nicht so gelaufen, wie ich mir das vorgestellt hatte, besonders was diesen Blog betrifft. Deswegen werde ich nun ganz langsam meine Fühler ausstrecken und wieder starten: mit meinen jährlichen popkulturellen Highlights der Literatur, Serien und Filme sowie Musik. Denn auch wenn das letzte Jahr schlimm war, ist das neue Jahr auch schon ziemlich katastrophal gestartet, weshalb ich die Gelegenheit nutzen will, nochmal in schöne, vergangene Dinge einzutauchen.

The past year was really nothing like I thought it would be, especially when it comes to running this blog. So I’m slowly dipping my toes back into the water, with a classic: my yearly pup culture highlights in literature, films and series, as well as music. Because even though the past year was pretty bad, this year is already off to a worse start, which is why I want to take this opportunity and cling to some nice, past things to remember 2024 positively.
Also, I can’t wrap my head around the fact that I’m doing Faves & Discoveries for the eighth year now – some things apparently never change!

FILME & SERIEN // FILMS & SERIES
I. PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS
Anfang 2024 habe ich alle Percy Jackson Bücher nochmal, beziehungsweise zum ersten Mal gelesen, in Vorbereitung auf diese Serie. Das Warten hat sich so gelohnt! Schon als Kind war ich großer Fan der griechischen Mythologie und der Percy Jackson Bücher. Die Neuadaption als Serie ist so, so gut. Ich habe die erste Staffel direkt mehrmals geschaut und allen meinen Freund*innen empfohlen. Wenn Du also jetzt erst einsteigst in diese Welt, oder auch schon lange Fan bist, dann ist jetzt der perfekte Zeitpunkt die Serie zu gucken, bevor die zweite Staffel kommt!
At the beginning of 2024 I (re-)read all of the Percy Jackson books, preparing myself for the release of this series. The waiting was so worth it! I have been such a big fan of the Greek mythology and the Percy Jackson books since I was a child. This new series adaption is simply deliciously good. I watched and re-watched the first season for weeks and recommended it to all my friends constantly. So if you are thinking about jumping into this fandom/story or you have also been a fan for a while, now is the perfect time to start this show, before the second season comes out!
II. ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING
Seit August pendle ich für vier Tage die Woche beruflich nach Berlin und wohne dann bei meinem Bruder. Es ist sehr schön, wieder mehr Zeit mit ihm zu verbringen! Abends machen wir es uns meistens gemeinsam mit eine Serie oder einen Film gemütlich und eine unserer ersten Entdeckungen war Only Murders in the Building, was wir beide vorher noch nicht gesehen hatten. Es ist eine wirklich „gemütliche“ Krimi-Serie mit Starbesetzung, die uns wirklich super unterhalten und mitfiebern lassen hat. Wir sind gespannt auf die nächste Staffel und ich möchte mir die Gelegenheit nicht nehmen lassen, sie an dieser Stelle wärmstens zu empfehlen.
Since August I’ve been commuting to Berlin for work and now live with my brother four days a week. It is absolutely lovely to spend more time with him again! In the evenings we often end up on the sofa, watching a series or a movie together und one of our first discoveries together was Only Murders in the Building, which neither of us had watched before. It’s a cozy crime series with a star cast, and we were not only well entertained, but also completely hooked. We are very excited for the next season and I don’t want to miss this chance to recommend the show here.
III. FIRE ISLAND
Eine moderne Neuerzählung von Jane Austens Stolz & Vorurteil, mit einem großteils PoC-Cast und queerem Twist? Da bin ich dabei! Und selbst bevor ich diese Info auf Wikipedia gelesen habe, hat mich dieser Film bestens unterhalten. Eine Gruppe schwuler Freunde, die zu ihren jährlichen Sommerurlaub aufbrechen und auf Fire Island viele Höhen und Tiefen, Partys und Hookups erleben – das kann nur gut werden und so war es auch!
A modern retelling of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice, with a mainly PoC-cast and a queer twist? Sign me the fuck up! And even before I got this info off the movie’s Wikipedia page, I wholeheartedly enjoyed it. A group of gay friends that go on their annual summer vacation together and experience many ups and downs, parties and hookups while on Fire Island – it can only be amazing. And it was!
IV. En Del Av Dig
Nachdem Young Royals nun vorbei ist, habe ich mich letzten Herbst nach neuem Edwin Ryding Material gesehnt. Und daher endlich En Del Av Dig geschaut. So habe ich nicht nur einen meiner Celebrity-Crushes zementiert und mein Schwedisch geübt, sondern konnte auch ein bisschen weinen. Denn der Film hat nicht nur eine emotionale, traurig-tragische Handlung, sondern ist auch wunderschön gemacht. Wenn Ihr Teenage-Drama, Existenzkrise und Trauerbewältigung in Geschichten auch immer gut findet, dann ist dieser Film genau das Richtige!
Now that Young Royals is over, I was craving new Edwin Ryding content last autumn. So I finally got around to watching A Part of You. Not only did I get to feed my celebrity crush and practice my Swedish skills, I also got to cry a little bit. Because this movie isn’t just emotional with a sad-tragic story, but it’s also beautifully made and written. If you love a good teen-drama, existential crisis and stories that tackle how people deal with their grief differently, then this film is the perfect choice for a movie night!
