Okay, also meine musikalischen Entdeckungen und/oder Favoriten aus 2021 sind ein wenig drunter und drüber – ein Album hier, ein*e Künstler*in da, oder auch nur ein Song der eine besondere Erwähnung verdient hat. Ich hoffe, es bringt trotzdem Lese- und Hörspaß.
Okay, so my discoveries and/or favourites of 2021 are a bit all over the place when it comes to the category of music – an album here, a few artists there, or simply a song that deserves a special shout out. I hope it still brings you joy while reading and listening.
I. IDER – shame
Du weißt vielleicht, dass IDER eine meiner Lieblingsbands ist. Über ihr erstes Album habe ich sogar einen ganzen Blogpost geschrieben. 2021 haben sie nun ein neues Album veröffentlicht und ich kann nur sagen: Ich lieb’s. shame ist wesentlich rauer und dreckiger als IDERs Debütalbum Emotional Education, aber wie auch bei der ersten Platte ist es ein absolutes Gesamtkunstwerk, das ich seit dem Erscheinen im letzten Sommer rauf und runter gehört habe. Außerdem hab ich mir die wunderschön dunkelblaue Limited Edition Vinyl gekauft. Fehlt nur noch ein funktionstüchtiger Plattenspieler, damit ich es endlich auch „oldschool“ genießen kann.
Obwohl alle Songs wirklich großartig sind, ich zu BORED und Cross Yourself zur Arbeit gestapft bin, cbb to b sad die Hymne des Sommers war und ich bei Midland’s Guilt vor lauter Schönheit der Klänge und Harmonien heulen könnte, ist obsessed wohl mein absoluter Lieblingssong des Albums. You might know that DIER is one of my favourite bands. I wrote a whole blogpost about their first album. In 2021 they finally released their second album and all I can say: I love it. shame is much rougher, much dirtier than IDER’s debut album Emotional Education, but just like their first record, it’s an absolute no-skip-masterpiece that I have been listening to constantly since it came out last summer. I also bought the beautiful, dark blue Limited Vinyl Edition. Now I only need a functioning record player to enjoy the album „oldschool“.

II. GLASS ANIMALS
Ich gebe zu, ich habe auch schon vor vier Jahren einen Glass Animals Song gehabt der mir gut gefallen hat und den ich viel gehört habe. Aber durch ihr neues Album Dreamland, sind im vergangen Jahr noch ein paar mehr Songs dazugekommen. Eine Freundin von mir sagt, Heatwaves ist der beste Liebeskummer-Song, und sie hat schon Recht damit. Aber auch Space Ghost Coast To Coast ist ein absoluter Banger, den ich immer noch in Dauerschleife hören könnte. Auch Tokyo Drifting und It’s All So Incredibly Loud sind einfach wundervoll. Nachdem es also schon vier Songs auf dem Album gibt, die es auf meine Faves & Discoveries des Jahres geschafft haben, sollte ich mir das ganze Album eventuell auch mal anhören, haha…
I must confess, I’ve been listening to one song by Glass Animals for about four years now, so it’s not exactly a new discovery. But ever since their new album Dreamland came out, a few more songs have joined my playlist. A friend of mine says, Heatwaves is the best heartbreak song ever, and she is not wrong. But Space Ghost Coast to Coast is also a real banger and I could still listen to it on repeat all day. Tokyo Drifting and It’s All So Incredibly Loud also deserve to be mentioned. So after writing this and realising that there are already four songs on the album that I am obsessed with enough for them to be mentioned in my Faves & Discoveries, I should probably listen to the whole thing at some point, lol…
III. OKLOU
Genau wie Glass Animals, ist auch Oklou meinem Youtubealgorithmus zu verdanken. Auch von ihr höre ich bisher nur eine Handvoll Lieder, aber ich bin sehr gespannt auf mehr. Als erstes bin ich über unearth me gestolpert und war direkt verliebt. Dann habe ich nighttime gefunden und glaube es gibt kein schönes „Schlaflied“. Die Krönung des Ganzen und eine Erinnerung an mich selbst dieser Künstlerin noch mehr Zeit und Aufmerksamkeit zu schenken ist allerdings diese Liveversion von ihrem Song Entertnmt: alles daran ist einfach wundervoll.
Just like with Glass Animals, I came across Oklou thanks to me Youtube algorithm. And when it comes to her, I’ve also only listened to a few of her songs, but I’m excited for more. First I came across unearth me and immediately fell in love. Then I found nighttime and I don’t think there has ever been a more beautiful „good night song“. The absolute winner for me though, and let this be a reminder to myself to spend more time discovering more of Oklou’s music, is this live version of her song Entertnmt. Everything about it is perfect.
IV. sex is good (but have you tried) – DONNA MISSAL
Wir haben mit einem ganzen Album begonnen, haben uns über Album-Bruchstücke nun zu einem ganz bestimmten Song durchgearbeitet. Als Sexnerd der ich bin, konnte mir dieser Song von Donna Missal ja nur gefallen. Eine Hymne über Sex, Selbstliebe und Masturbation? Das ist doch der perfekte Soundtrack für Singles in einer Pandemie! Dauerohrwurm und mein persönlicher Hit des Jahres.
So we started this blog post with an album, worked our way through a small collection of songs by several artists and now we are ending it on a single song. As the sexnerd that I am, I had no choice but to love this Song by Donna Missal. It’s all about sex, self-love and masturbation, I mean? That’s the perfect soundtrack for a single person in a pandemic! I constantly have it stuck in my head and it’s my personal hit of 2021.
